How to understand you pig
Guinea pigs can talk also
Have you ever heard your guinea pig squeaking non- stop, and seen her jumping and purring in her cage? What does this mean? Well Down below shows a list of sounds and movements that match to what your piggie is trying to say to you.
STRECHING- Relaxed and very comfortable. (My guinea pig sleeps stretched out )
JUMPING- Happy, excited, cheerful. (Baby guinea pigs jump like little pop corn kernels when they can't contain their excitement.) Guinea pigs tend to jump when they are about to be fed a meal.
WHEN CAVIES TOUCH NOSES- Greeting, and introducing them selfs in a proper and friendly way.
SQUEAKING- Annoyance, frustration, pain, fear, or loneliness. They also squeak when hungry, but you can tell by the pitch of their voice. (My guinea pig is much like a human in the sense that when shes very tired, and my light is on in my room, she squeaks in an annoyed way, and I listen to her and turn off the light)
COOING- Sometimes it sounds very similar to an owl. Guinea pigs coo when they are calm and happy, very relaxed.
MURMURS, GRUNTS, AND GURGLES- content, relaxed, happy
FEET ON THE BARS, CONTINUED SQUEAKING, AND STANDING UP- Very hungry
LOWERING HEAD, AND LOW PURRS- Fear, beg of mercy
HISSING AND CHATTERING TEETH- Aggression warning off some enemy, this is a sign to go away, "If you don't listen I'll bite you" (cavy talk)
LOW GRURTING (purrs) RATLING- Male guinea pig mating call
FOLDING LEGS UNDER BODY, AND PRESSING AGAINST CAGE WALL- Helplessness, need for some sort of protection
Ugguggramafoo- I'm tired of salad , GIVE ME PIZZA! (Joke)
