Showing: 4-H or Open class?
What is showing and 4H?
4-H enables you to have fun and meet new people. In 4-H you learn a lot about the animal you study, which in this case would be guinea pigs. Once a week you go to your local 4-H club, and study hard all about the animal that you close to learn about. 4-H also prepares you for show, and teaches you the basics of showmanship. In 4-H you do activities, and learn in a fun, encouraging way. There are opportunities to learn life skills, set goals, build self-confidence, learn responsibility and make decisions. In my experience 4-H helped me reach my main goal; to learn as much as possible about guinea pigs, and to have fun doing so. Of course there's responsibility and hard work, but after word it all pays off. 4-H has its rules and fun, they even have a pledge and Motto that I'd like to share with you: 4-H Pledge
I pledge
My head to clear thinking
My heart to greater loyalty
My hands to larger service
My health to better living
For my club, my community, my country, and my world.
Motto:
To make the best better
Personally, I have showed Cavies and Poultry for four years, and it has been just as fun every year.
Whether you're in a club, after school program, day camp, or in other program settings, 4-H is the place to be!
SHOWING YOUR GUINEA PIG
Showing is quite fun and rewarding, and just as I mentioned above, it is easy if 4-H has prepared you well, and you feel you are ready to show your guinea pig. At show, you take your guinea pig to be examined, compared, and evaluated based on standards set by expert guinea pig breeders. In order to show your guinea pig, it has to meet such requirements for, coat pattern, nail color, health, symmetry, temperament, eye color, breed, personality, body structure, etc... Prizes (and sometimes money) are rewarded based on your guinea pig's performance, and attributes. Your guinea pig wins ribbons also based on it's over all appearance. At show, your guinea pig must be well groomed, healthy, and in a good mood. Pregnant guinea pigs are never to showed.
